Other opportunities
What is your passion and where do your skills and gifts lie? Are they available to the Lord through CLC? Perhaps you're really good at window displays, or you've noticed that there are some maintenance jobs that you could do... Or perhaps you would be willing to write prices on greetings cards.... If you sense you have something to offer, don't keep it to yourself. Get in touch with us.

Part time VOLUNTEERS are needed in many CLC bookshops. Not all the opportunities are listed above. Please contact your local CLC branch to enquire as to speciifc needs, including the minimum weekly commitment as regards time.
We particularly need people who are able to do more than serve behind a counter.
Minimum requirements: committed Christian, over 18, responsible attitude and able to take on some responsibility, an eye for detail, computer literate, good with people, willing to learn new skills, retail experience an advantage, pleasant phone manner, good memory.
Please note: in those cases (the majority) where we are not able to offer employment and if you do not have private means of personal support you will have to raise some personal financial (and prayer) support to serve with CLC as a fulltime volunteer, just as you would with many other missions. Read on to learn more about our support system. It is tried and tested, and God is faithful!!

CLC wishes to connect with people with a genuine passion for literature mission who wish to share their enthusiasm, experience and training, particularly in marketing and management.  We are also keen to speak with people with wider skills attracted to the mission of CLC.

Though we sell many other Christian resources, CLC is at heart a literature mission distributing Christian literature and Bibles throughout the UK through locally operated resource centres. CLC operates 21 retail sites nationwide and is a wholesale distributor to many, many accounts in the retail Christian product market.

To grow the UK ministry, we are seeking people who share the vision and mission of CLC, and who are able to bring strong management and leadership capability.  This could involve coordinating a team of volunteers and/or paid staff in wholesale distribution or in our retail stores throughout the country.  If you have relevant business operations training and/or experience and believe you should now apply those skills into a ministry context please contact us and talk about your interest.

We are keen to hear from you if you are excited about the possibilities of how you might fit into the CLC mission and help advance the Christian faith.through what you can bring to the ministry.

How do people serve with CLC?

Whether they serve as a volunteer for a few hours or a couple of days a week, or as a short-term or long-term missionary, we believe that the people who work with us will receive a call or direction from God, a sense that God would want them to serve Him in this way. Psalm 32:23 says, The steps of the godly are directed by the Lord. He delights in every detail of their lives. Psalm 32:8 says, The Lord says, 'I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.'
We encourage people to seek the Lord for His answer as to their future when thinking of CLC.

Be aware that CLC in the UK does not normally <employ> people. In other words, we do not pay salaries as a rule, but some posts are open to employment.

Personal Finances

We trust God to supply all of our financial needs, whether through the sales income to cover the daily running costs of the ministry, or through gifts for the personal financial needs of our non-employed staff.

CLC UK does not normally pay salaries as such, but some roles are salaried.
CLC has a hybrid support system. Most of our full time workers are in a combination system whereby some overheads can be covered by CLC trade funds, whereas personal and other expenses are funded by friends, family members, churches and so on. Besides the accommodation costs that can be covered by CLC for those serving full time, a basic monthly allowance is available providing there are sufficient gifts to the ministry for it to be paid out.

Though marking a distinct departure from our long-established personal support system, paying salaries is nothing new to CLC worldwide. In fact all CLC ministries around the world include employees. In some countries with a missionary tradition, gifts are received into CLC and those that are not designated for other purposes go towards personnel costs.

The founders of CLC, Ken and Bessie Adams, felt that salaries should not be paid; rather, members of CLC should make their needs known only to God. Things have changed somewhat since those early days. Whether salaried or not, each missionary is still dependent on God's provision for their needs and each one ministers from a position of faith and trust in God.

In short, every full-time CLC worker who is not salaried, whether based in the UK or serving overseas, needs some personal means of support (eg own resources, and/or via friends, family, churches, etc.) CLC can provide some support for domestic overheads from trade funds. A gift fund provides £90 per month to qualifying team members. The rest requires committed giving - and regular contact with supporters via visits, newsletters etc in order to maintain and develop their practical and prayerful interest and commitment, and to keep them abreast of how the Lord is using thier "investment" of time and finance in you, their missionmary.

There are various ways to serve in CLC UK:

  1. Volunteer - offering your time, from half a day upwards, to help in your local CLC centre
  2. Gap year or university course placement (eg languages, business, intercultural studies...)
  3. "Taster" placements - to see if CLC is for you
  4. Short-term from a few months to a couple of years or so

This is an ideal role for someone with a passion for books and already working in retail, and for quick learners with people and organisational skills.
