Opportunities for Service with CLC

How do people join CLC?
Whether they serve as a volunteer for a few hours or a couple of days a week, or as a short-term or long-term missionary, we believe that the the people who work with us will receive a call or direction from God, a sense that God would want them to serve Him in this way. Psalm 32:23 says, The steps of the godly are directed by the Lord. He delights in every detail of their lives. Psalm 32:8 says, The Lord says, 'I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.'
We encourage people to seek the Lord for His answer as to their future when thinking of CLC.

Be aware that CLC in the UK does not normally <employ> people. We do not pay salaries as a rule.

Personal Finances

We trust God to supply all of our financial needs, whether for the income to cover the daily running costs of the ministry, or personal financial needs of our staff.

CLC UK does not normally pay salaries as such.
Since taking over 6 existing bookshops together with their paid staff in December 2009 CLC now has a hybrid support system. Most of our full time workers continue to be supported in a combination system whereby some overheads can be covered by CLC and personal expenses are funded by friends, family members, churches, pensions and savings. Besides the accommodation costs that can be covered by CLC for those serving full time, an basic allowance is available providing there are sufficient gifts to the ministry for it to be paid out.

Though marking a distinct departure from our long-established personal support system, paying salaries is nothing new to CLC worldwide. In fact our workers are salaried all over the world. In some coutries with a missionary tradition, gifts are received into CLC and those that are not designated go towards personnel costs.

The founders of CLC, Ken and Bessie Adams, felt that salaries should not be paid; rather, members of CLC should make their needs known only to God. Things have changed somewhat since those early days. Whether salaried or not, each missionary is still dependent on God's provision for their needs and minister from a position of faith and trust in God.

In short, every full-time CLC worker who is not salaried, whether based in the UK or serving overseas, needs some personal means of support (eg own resources, or via friends, family, churches, etc.)
